SAISA Boys Basketball has finished its season this year and I believed that I won’t get an opportunity to manage the score board again until the next season…BUT Geckoes never sleep, now is the season for SAISA Girls Basketball! Unexpected opportunities arise!!!

On Tuesday the 18th of January, there was a basketball match between our girls basketball team and Gateway College. Once again, I had the opportunity to manage the score board for this match.

In the past, Ravin was in charge of managing the score board and I was in charge of writing down the information on the score sheet, but due to Ravin’s absence, this time I had to manage the score board. This was something I’ve never done before and was something much harder (and more pressure) than just writing down the information.

Since I didn’t know how to make a full use of the score board (such as putting the personal fouls, etc), all I did was to start/stop the clock and put the scores for both teams. Although the job didn’t seem to be hard, I was nervous throughout the game, as it was my first experience controlling the score board.

Although I made some minor mistakes, overall it was not a problem and through this new experience, I covered several criteria:

  1. Undertake new challenge
  2. Work collaboratively with others
  3. Show perseverance and commitment in the activity
  4. Develop a new skill

I’ve covered the first criterion without a doubt, it was a completely new experience and challenge for me. As for the second criterion, I’ve covered it through working collaboratively with Savinda. He was in charge of writing down the information on the score sheet and we worked together throughout the game. There were several problems which arose during the game, but we showed perseverance and commitment in trying to deal with them and solve those problems (this covered the third criterion). And the fourth criterion was also achieved; I’ve developed some skills of managing the score board. However, this is an area that still has a room for improvement. I haven’t fully understood how to put the fouls etc on the board, so I hope learn those as well in the future.

I’m certain that I’ll get another opportunity to manage the scoreboard again near future, therefore I’ll use that as an opportunity to learn more things about controlling the scoreboard.
