Managing the Score Board

Yesterday, there was a basketball match between OSC and Unique International College at OSC. I was in charge of noting down the scores, who scored, who fouled and many more. I was the assistant of Ravin, who managed the score board and worked collaboratively with him throughout the match. It was not an easy job and sometimes I was frustrated because there were lots of things to do, but I somehow managed to do this job and at the end of the day, I felt that I’ve gained a new experience.

This was the first time I’ve done this job and through this new experience, I’ve managed to cover several criteria of the CAS. They were:

  • Undertaken new challenges
  • Worked collaboratively with others
  • Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities
  • Developed new skills

An update on Sun Flower Project

Last week Thursday, a group of students from a local school came for the first time. In order to maximize the time we can spend teaching them how to swim, we’ve come up with a plan in advance regarding what to do.

At first, we introduced ourselves and we asked the kids to write down their names. After that, we split them into two groups; those who can already swim a little and those who are absolute beginners. Jacov and Ravin were in charge of looking after those kids who can swim already and Avin, Yariq and I taught those kids who are beginners.

Since this was the first time the kids got into the pool, we taught them very basic things, such as kicking, sinking in the water for a few seconds etc with the help of Mr. Stanley.

For the last 20 minutes or so, we got some water polo balls and played with them. As the kids get more comfortable with swimming in the pool, we’ll also teach them how to play water polo and get to know each other well.

Badminton After School Activities

We, Mo and I, have talked to Ms. Wolfe about the badminton after school activities and now it is an official ASA for the second block, which is from the first week after the October break to the last week of Semester 1.

The day of this ASA is on Monday from 2:45 p.m to 3:45 p.m. We’ve asked the PE department if we can use the school badminton racquets and this was approved, so anybody can join this ASA regardless of if they don’t have a badminton racquet. We’ll be getting half of the gym, therefore we can set up 4 courts and this will allow us to have between 8 to about 20 people.

This badminton ASA is for beginners as well as veterans and right now, the plan is that Mo will teach the beginners how to play badminton and I’ll be in charge of organizing the tournament and fun activities for those who can already play badminton well.

Sports Gala

On the 16th of September, the secondary school had a Sports Gala. This is the day where we compete against other house colors through various sports, which were Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Kickball and Swimming. Throughout this Sports Gala which ran for the whole day, there were numbers of criteria that I feel I’ve fulfilled. They were:

  • Increased their awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth
  • Worked collaboratively with others
  • Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities

I think the first criterion was quite noticeable for me and I have increased an awareness that I have a potential to be a decent football player. This is also the area for growth, which could be improved through joining the SAISA Boys Football this year.

The second criterion was something that I had to have in order to make this day fun for everybody. For choosing the events people were going to participate in, I worked collaboratively with other people from my house color to make sure that everybody is participating in some events and make sure that they’re happy with what they were going to do. Also this criterion was fulfilled through participating in the events. Sports is something that requires collaboration with others and I think I worked well with the other people in the same house color in order to optimize our potential.

The last criterion was probably the biggest challenge for me. Since not everybody showed up on this day, for some events we were short on players and thus I participated in almost all the events. I showed a perseverance and commitment by participating in most of the events for my house color.

This was my first Action this year and I hope to keep it up throughout this year as well as next year.

Grade 12 IB Drama Production Lighting

As a part of my Creativity, I helped with the lighting for the grade 12’s IB Drama Production on the 30th of September and on the 1st of October.

The first practice was on the 25th of September and that day, I received the lighting cue sheet from one of the drama students and with the help of Mr. Rana and Ms. Grant, we finalized the lighting cues.

I’ve done the spot light and the sound before but it was the first time I did the lighting, so I had a lot of pressure but everything went alright and I’m happy with my work. Through this experience, I covered several criteria:

  • Undertaken new challenges
  • Worked collaboratively with others
  • Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities
  • Developed new skills

At the end of the day, it was a great experience for me and I wish to do the lighting again if I have a chance in the future.
